Been Farmin’ Long?

Veggies from Garners Farm
Veggies from Garners Farm

I went to Garner’s Farm today to buy some veggies for MY tomato sauce.  Whilst there, I also bought a Bogue Sound seedless watermelon.  It is said that Bogue (pronounced Bōg) Sound Watermelons are the best anywhere.  They ARE good.

I also bought some green beans.  I cleaned them and snapped them this afternoon and are cooking as I type.  I through in a red potato for good measure.  Red potatoes have a lower glycemic index than white potatoes.  If you are watching your carb intake or want a low sugar diet, just remember white carbs are wrong carbs.  Let me elaborate:  White bread, white rice, white potatoes turn almost entirely to sugar when digested.  (You might notice that that is Silver Queen/white corn in the photo.  I don’t know if it’s a no-no.  Does anyone else?  The corn came from my trip to Betty’s Garden in Southern Pines.)

Footnote:

Tonight we had corn on the cob, green beans w/potato, watermelon, tomato wedges & quesadillas made with homemade wheat tortillas.

  1. Looks like it was a yummy feast! I love watermelon, and also raw string beans. I used to munch on them like carrots when I was growing up. Aren’t we blessed to have such a bountiful supply of fruits and veggies this time of year!
